Before moving on to the main subject matter (Google adsense), i,m going to give you a clue or a basic knowledge about how the google adword program works. There,s no way you can perfectly understand how the Google adsense program works without you having a basic knowledge about how the Google Adword advertisement program works. The Google ad sense advertisement program is just an extension of the Google ad word advertisement program.

Google Adword is the platform  through which Google receive ads from advertisers  who wish to advertise their business through the Google Advertisement network and on their search results.

The Google advertisement network is made up of millions of partner websites and blogs (the Google adsense partners). By using the Google Adword advertisement service, E-business men and women can expose their products and services to millions of potential customers or clients on the internet.

E-business men&women that advertise through the Google adwords advertising platform, do so by targetting keywords frequently used by the Google users to search for information through Google.

Somebody may likely want to ask; but how does the adwords advertisers know the keywords used by the Google users?.

The Google company has a keyword research tool called the Google keyword planner tool that enables the Google AdWord advertisers to see all the types of keywords (search phrases) used by the Google users to search for information and the frequency (number of times) in which the keywords are often typed in to the Google search bar. Through the Google keyword planner tool, the AdWords advertisers are also able to see the cost per click of the various keywords. Its through the Google keyword planner tool that the the Google Adword advertisers search for good keywords to target through AdWords advertising campaign.

The Google AdWords advertisers often target keywords that will bring potential customers or clients to their e-commerce websites. For example an owner of an ecommerce website like, may create and submit an ad word ad targeting the keyword “domain name”. After the ad has been submitted, when a Google search engine user types in a keyword that matches the target keyword (domain name), Google will display the ad of the advertiser (Godaddy) alongside the organic search result for the target keyword (domain name). Put simply, when an advertiser creates an adword ad targeting the keyword “domain name”, his or her Adword ad will be displayed at the top of the search result alongside the search result for the keyword “domain name”. This method of advertising is targetted advertising and often yields a very high return on investment (a high conversion rate) because an advertiser can easily reach his or her target customers or clients through the Google search engine by targetting the keywords often used by them to search for information.
Anybody that types in the keyword "how to register a domain name" in to the Google search bar, is clearly a potential client to the domain registrars and if a domain registrar like Godaddy can create an AdWord ad targetting the keyword "where to register a domain name", they will stand a better chance of getting those potential customers (clients) than other domain registrars (their competitors).

Summarily, Google Adwords advertisers pay Google to display their ads in the first pages of their search results when their target keywords are searched. When somebody clicks on their Adwords ad, the advertisers or the person who is running the adword advertisement campaign has to pay Google money. That is why this type of advertising is called Pay Per Click as the advertisers only pays when a web visitor (Google user) actually clicks on their ads.

Somebody may likely want to ask; But how does Google determine the cost of a click of keyword?

Google charge their adwords advertisers using an auction system. The Google AdWord advertisers bid on keywords in order to get their ads displayed at the first page of the Google search results.

Advertisers choose the keywords they would like to target (with the help of the Google keyword planner tool) and set the highest price they are willing to pay for a single click on their ad (this is also known as cost-per- click or CPC). For example, an advertiser could pick the search phrase “iPhone 6 case for sale” and make a bid of $1.25. That bid is then compared to that of other advertisers bidding on the same keyword. Google will display the ads of the top 3 highest bidders for the target keyword “iPhone 6 case for sale” in the first page of their search result whenever the keyword “iPhone 6 case for sale” is searched. In some cases, google also checks the relevancy of the content found on the websites of the adwords advertisers to their target keywords before determining if their ads should be shown in their search result. Because you have lots of money doesn’t mean you can target or bid on any keyword and your ad will be shown in the first page. Google is also trying to breach the gap between profitability and credibility.

Like i told you before, only the ads of the top 3 highest bidders for a particular keyword will be displayed in the Google search results. The ads of the other bidders (the low bidders) for the keyword “iPhone 6 case for sale” will be displayed in Google ad sense partner websites or blogs. This would mean that each time a potential buyer clicks on the Adwords ads that has been displayed on the Google adsense partner,s blogs (websites), Google will give the adsense partners a percentage (68%) of the $1.25 (any amount which the advertiser was charged for the Adword ad).

In order to make sure that the AdWords advertisers (whose ads are displayed on the Google adsense partner,s blogs or websites) also get a return on their investment, Google only display the AdWords ads on blogs whose content are relevant (closely related) to the adwords ads. For example, Google will only display the ads of Adword Advertisers that have targeted the keyword “iphone 6 case for sale” on adsense partner websites or blogs whose niche (theme) is about iphone 6 case or Iphone 6 related subjects. Those are the blogs or website that will likely have web visitors (audience) that will likely be interested in purchasing an Iphone 6 case. Like I told you before, Google has software that can scan the entire content of a website to determine what the content of a blog (website) is all about and that’s why they are able to display contextual or highly relevant ads on their ad sense partner websites. Google wants advertisers to get a return on their investment.
It should be noted that there are 3 parties involve in the Google adsense partnership program which include Advertisers, Google and website owners (adsense partners). The role of Google in the partnership program is like that of a middle man or a broker. Google’s responsibilities in the adsense partnership program is to receive ads from advertisers, scan (read) the articles (blogposts) found on the websites of the adsense partner websites and find Google adword ads that are relevant to the articles (blog posts) and display them next to the articles (blog posts) and you get paid each time one of your web visitors clicks on the Google ads.

Google is like a middleman helping bloggers (website owners) and advertisers get connected. For example if you have a blog or website that discusses about Iphone 6 related topic or an iphone 6 review website, you don’t need to stress yourself looking for people (iphone 6 online shop owners) that will advertise on your blog or website for you to make money. Google already have a long list of people who wish to advertise various products and services through their adwords advertisement platform. You just need to join the free Google adsense program and Google will display Iphone related ads on your website and you get paid every time one of your web visitors clicks on any of those Google adword ads. Like I told you before, every day millions of e-business men&women submit Adwords ads to Google targeting various keywords. So no matter the topic (niche) of your website or blog, there must be Adwords ads that will be related to the content of your website or blog. Have you just created a website for your church?, join the Google adsense program and google will display bible related ads on your website. Is the topic of your blog about rats or how to get rid of rats or rare rats? join the google adsense program and google will display rat traps ads and other rat related ads on your website.
